A bit about me and my background…

I started my career as a Secondary Education teacher, I spent 18 months after graduating from University, gaining experience in several challenging environments as a Supply teacher before moving into the Outdoors. I spent the next 14 years working in the outdoors, finishing at The Outward Bound Trust for nearly 10 years. I started as an Assistant Instructor and progressed through to becoming a Senior Instructor which alongside instructing groups, I managed my own clients during their visits to the centre, along with the Instructors working directly with those clients and also trained new Instructors into the company. Regardless of age or ability I set high standards with regards to how young people conduct themselves.

When Instructing, I dealt with a wide variety of students from different social backgrounds who have different needs and abilities, my goal for each of them was to make a step forward in the right direction and to help them see their potential. I also needed to show a great deal of empathy, understanding and patience as some students didn’t know how to act when scared or in the unknown.

A very big interest for me is the way we interact with each other and students and I have been able to go on NLP courses and Transactional Analysis course, both of which are areas I am passionate to develop.

After my time at Outward Bound before I made the decision to move on to a new challenge, working with young people in care. I had a steep learning curve coming into this occupation as interacting with these young people made me look at my approach and how personable I was for them. I adapted many of my techniques to build rapport over the time I worked there. My role was mostly based with the post 16 young people, helping them to gain the skills they will need to live on their own.

I then decided to act on the thought that had been with me for a while, to become self employed and still educate young people in a skill I absolutely adore, leading me to where I am now, an ADI who has a passion for developing a very important life skill for anyone who takes that step to Independence.

I trained with a fantastic Driving Instructor, Stuart Mitchell, who supported me through qualifying to become an instructor myself, I then got to work alongside Stu under his franchise until I felt it was time for me to step out into the world under my own name. So here we are!

I have a 66% 1st time pass rate and I absolutely love driving and see it as an artform, something I take pride in and help to instil this in my learners.

Cant wait to meet you…
